Northwest State Community College is once again offering our First Course Free scholarship for its Van Wert Campus. The full-service campus will open in the summer of 2025. Fall 2025 class schedules for Van Wert can be found here.
Overview of Program Requirements
- Must be newly admitted to Northwest State Community College for the Fall 2025 semester (cannot be a current student).
- Available for any newly enrolled students, including past College Credit Plus students and former students returning after at least one year.
- Must take at least 1 class in the Van Wert Campus.
- Not available for students who are currently registered for Fall 2024 or Spring/Summer 2025 courses at NSCC
- Must complete application for federal student aid (FAFSA).
- Scholarship is continuously awarded as students apply and will be first come first serve.
- Scholarship is good for Fall 2025 semester for one class (3 credit hours).

Work progressing at local satellite campus of NSCC
February 01, 2025 - VAN WERT, OHIO - Crews have been busy transforming the former Kennedy Manufacturing building on E. Sycamore St. into a full-service satellite campus of Northwest State Community College. The 50,000 square foot structure had been vacant for approximately 15 years when it was purchased by NSCC in early 2022, at a cost of nearly $500,000. Even before Archbold-based NSCC acquired the property, plans for a Van Wert-based satellite campus had been under discussion for approximately three years but like many other things, those plans were slowed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Progress made on Northwest State’s Van Wert Campus
October 21, 2024 - Van Wert, OHIO - Board members from Northwest State Community College, on Friday, got to tour their Van Wert campus building, which is under construction, on Sycamore Street. “We’re about six to seven months away from having a fully-functional, full-service campus for Northwest State Community College in Van Wert,” said Jon Tomlinson, Dean of the Van Wert Campus. Northwest State Van Wert Campus Announces Spring 2025 Courses
October 17, 2024 - Van Wert, OHIO - Your Van Wert Campus of Northwest State Community College is excited to announce the opening of registration for our Spring 2025 semester. Until the Van Wert Campus is fully operational, we have once again partnered with Van Wert Health to host courses starting in January 2025. Classes are scheduled to be held in an 8-week hybrid format (1.5 hours of face-to-face lecture with online assignments) during the week. Read More
NSCC receives state grant, updates plans
June 21, 2024 - VAN WERT, OHIO - The future home of Northwest State Community College’s Van Wert campus has received a nice and somwhat unexpected financial boost. During a planned wall signing event and media tour on Thursday, NSCC President Dr. Todd Hernandez announced the satellite campus on E. Sycamore St., the former Kennedy Manufacturing building, has been approved for a sizeable grant from the state’s One Time Strategic Community Improvement Fund. Read More
Wall-signing a good sign for NSCC
June 21, 2024 - VAN WERT, OHIO - The old Kennedy Kit factory on 520 E. Sycamore Street was the site of an unusual event on Thursday morning—a wall signing. The event celebrated the interior demolition by Alexander and Bebout of the office building and the next stage of development for the Northwest State satellite campus—set to open in spring, 2025. The idea for the signing was Jon Tomlinson’s. Tomlinson, the Dean of the Van Wert Campus, had done something similar as a member of his church years earlier. Read More
